Book Review: The City of Dreaming Books, by Walter Moers
If there is something about the smell of old books that stirs a longing in your soul, you will enjoy this book. The created world of this novel is complex and dynamic, deep without being overwhelming. Moers claims to be translating a work from a foreign culture (not unlike William Goldman), which is wildly obsessed with literature. I’m not entirely sure why he felt this frame was needed, but it’s not distracting, so it only adds to the interest. The quality of writing is among the best I’ve picked up in a while, and I found it a great introduction to Moers.
